Call for Officer Candidates and Notice of Upcoming Elections
Nominations are being accepted July 17 - Aug 14 for the 2024 PMI Central Arkansas Chapter Board of Directors. This is a great way to get involved with PMI and the local chapter. Board Members get to work with Project Managers and others in our chapter, our region, and around the world - PLUS earn up to 10 PDUs per year of service towards their PMI professional certification. Candidates will be announced on the chapter website and in a special email publication to the membership. We will conduct the election in September 2023 via online voting; you will receive an email from PMI with voting details.
The following Board of Directors positions are up for election for January 2024 - December 2025. (VP Positions are two-year terms).
Vice President of Marketing
Responsible for developing the PMI Central Arkansas Chapter marketing strategy, and promotion programs, maintaining and posting on PMICAC social media accounts, and developing corporate relations in accordance with the purposes of the Chapter. The Vice President of Marketing secures sponsors and advertisers for chapter events and initiatives. The Vice President of Marketing forwards announcements to media outlets as directed by the Board. Vice President of Professional Development
Encourages the development of project management professionals, is responsible for chapter member professional education programs, interfaces with the PMI Headquarters on professional certification matters (PMP, CAPM, etc.), and serves as liaison to local Colleges and Universities on student project management education. Also coordinates with the Vice President of Programs on chapter events that have educational components. For additional information, please refer to the chapter bylaws, Article V, Section 9.
Vice President of Finance
Manage all Chapter funds, including the receipt of all dues, contributions, and guest payments, the payment of all Chapter bills as directed by the Board, and the accounting of all Chapter bank accounts and other financial activities. Prepare an operating budget, with the approval of the Board, for the planning of Chapter activities and for inclusion in the annual application to PMI for charter renewal. Prepare an annual financial report on the activities and the financial status of the Chapter for submission to the Board by December 1 of each year. For additional information, please refer to the chapter bylaws, Article V, Section 4. Previous experience in financial management is desired.
President-Elect (this is a three-year term January 2024 – December 2026)
To be considered for the President-Elect, the member must have completed at least one term on the Board of Directors. The President-Elect will serve during the last term of the current President. The President-Elect will serve in a mentoring role by attending each Board meeting and presiding over one (1) chapter meeting per quarter. The President-Elect will assume any VP role that may vacate prior to the end of an elected term. The President-Elect does not vote unless he/she has assumed another role on the Board. The President-Elect will transition to the role of President for one year and will then serve as Past President for the final year. What kind of time commitment is involved?
When reviewing the Roles and Responsibilities document, a position can seem overwhelming. However, the Board operates collaboratively, there are Directors, event PM’s, committees, and other volunteers to help, and the documentation is our vision for what the position should become (we are in progress).
- Monthly chapter meeting (2nd Thursday of every month, 1 to 2 hrs)
- Monthly board meeting (1st Thursday of every month, 1 to 2 hrs plus status report preparation time)
- Board members average four to eight hours of work monthly performing their specific role and interacting with appointed Directors and their committee members in work relevant to their area of responsibility.
- Annual board planning session(s) to establish the strategic direction for the Chapter (approximately 8 hrs)
What are the benefits of being on the Board of Directors?
In addition to earning up to 25 PDUs per certification cycle towards their PMI professional certification, officers are encouraged to represent the PMI Central Arkansas Chapter by participating in either the Region 6 or North American Leadership Institute Meeting (LIM) during their two-year term:
- LIM - Typically held in February, March, or April each year, attend the Annual 2.5-day North American Leadership Conference. Chapter officers will network, attend breakout sessions, and share best practices with chapter officers from Texas, Northwest Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Colorado for the advancement of the PMI Central Arkansas Chapter.
- PMI Global Summit - Typically held in September or October each year, attend the PMI Global Summit to network, learn best practices with chapter officers from around the world, meet PMI global leaders, and attend professional development sessions to enhance their PM careers and advance the PMI Central Arkansas Chapter.
- Additionally, all officers are encouraged to participate in the annual PMI Central Arkansas Chapter Professional Development Day event which is typically held in the Fall each year. Admission is free for elected officers.
What are the qualifications? In short, a candidate:
- Must be and remain a member in good standing of the PMI Central Arkansas chapter during the term of service.
- Must meet the requirements of the position and be willing and able to commit to a two-year term of service.
- Certification as a CAPM®, PMP®, PgMP®, PMI-SP®, or PMI-RMP® in roles involving education (VP of Programs and VP of Professional Development)
